So far...

Here is a quick look at what we've been working on so far!
So far in 207, we have written to entertain, to persuade, and to inform. We're covering all of the bases!
In our study on "Space", we are looking at collecting quantitative and qualitative data.

We start each morning with a Communication Book prompt.

Our read aloud novel about perseverance.
A picture book that we read also about perseverance and these three words:

Hello!

Welcome to a blog about room 207. This is a place to check in on the things we are learning and experiencing together. I realize that not everyone will be able to check this site regularly. I will try and send really important information via email but this is a great place to check into as well.

It has been a great start in our room so far. Students are quickly learning that this is a place of business and that we have work to do, but if we can learn to work like a well oiled machine, we can start to have fun while we work.

I will be hosting our class meeting on Tuesday, September 18th at 6:30. Please make every effort to be in attendance as there will be lots of important things to discuss.

I have learned that quite a few students are feeling anxious about math and that many of them want to have extra practice at home. This is something that I am looking into.

There are many forms that I have handed out and am waiting for. Here is a list:
Terry Fox permission form
purple Morning run permission form
pink sheet about media permission and internet usage
white student verification forms
pink Student Questionnaire

Questions to ask the students:
Who is Chuck Close and what is prosopagnosia?
What are Tiiu's expectations for the agendas?
What is awesome sauce?
What is perserverance?

Thanks for checking in! I look forward to meeting with you all soon.

Book Spine Poetry

Here is an activity designed to help the students get to know some of the books we have on our shelves while getting creative. They were asked to peruse the shelves and stack the spines to create poems. Here is some of their work.

For You

This is for you Sage because I know you are reading this. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is a SHORT story (I'm talking two pages MAX) about an 8 year old girl named Tiiu who has a penchant for turtlenecks and crafting who happens upon an exhilarating discovery: a man named Haymitch who tells her that she is the chosen one. Ready? Go!

Bombdiggity

Dear 310: It is the first official week of my summer vacation. I had Daisy and Hayden stand in a gabbing clump and follow me around all day talking about cheese, apples, Harry Potter, robot elephants, Steve Jobs, and 310 gossip just cause I missed you all so much. I'm hoping you are all enjoying your holidays and have big plans. I may update here from time to time with summer ideas and funny videos I think you'll like. I guess it depends on how busy the kiddies keep me. If you don't hear from me in over a week, send the troops over to my house as I may be buried under a pile of Lego and Barbie shoes. I want to thank you all for your generous gifts and thoughtful cards. I especially loved some of the great drawings I got and the single lychee! I will try and post some of the artwork here soon. In the meantime, check out this cool website for fun ideas and these cute kids.
