Self Discipline

Happy Monday.

Today we talked about self-discipline. Take a look at this video and ask the kids how it applies to them and their jobs here at school.

In math, we reviewed lattice multiplication. Most of the students are using it effectively. There are some that need some more practice which we will continue to give them here.
We took a quick look at candy division. We will practice it tomorrow. Most seemed to understand how it worked.

We also took a look at the text features of brochures. We will be using this information for an upcoming in-class science project.

Ask students to show you the actions for interrogative, exclamatory, declarative, and imperative sentences.

Lecture

Good day to you all. Yesterday, we spoke about what being engaged actually looks like. We (and by "we" I mean "I") talked about how we all have to be here anyways. Just because it might be a good idea, why not try and get engaged and leave at the end of the day with something more than a few good giggles with your friends. That was my one lecture of the day.

 Asking questions can be so much more effective at demonstrating your learning then answering a question or staying mum. When you ask a question, you not only show that you have been listening to what has been said, but you also show that you are trying to understand it better.

There were many lightbulbs going off in math today. We talked about what multiplying is and why it is so confusing. Then, I taught them the "Lattice Method". Here is a picture of what we did. See if you can figure it out.

So far in 207, we have written to entertain, to persuade, and to inform. We're covering all of the bases!

In our study on "Space", we are looking at collecting quantitative and qualitative data.

We start each morning with a Communication Book prompt.

Hello!

Welcome to a blog about room 207. This is a place to check in on the things we are learning and experiencing together. I realize that not everyone will be able to check this site regularly. I will try and send really important information via email but this is a great place to check into as well.

It has been a great start in our room so far. Students are quickly learning that this is a place of business and that we have work to do, but if we can learn to work like a well oiled machine, we can start to have fun while we work.

I will be hosting our class meeting on Tuesday, September 18th at 6:30. Please make every effort to be in attendance as there will be lots of important things to discuss.

I have learned that quite a few students are feeling anxious about math and that many of them want to have extra practice at home. This is something that I am looking into.
