We added some words to our Word Wall. So far our words are: laugh, have friends, because, off, perserverance, people, said, they, until, want, your, and you're. Today we added: again, could, excited, favourite, into, really, to, two, too, and was. Remember, these words are either ones that we've discussed with other content or they are frequently mispelled words. Often, we point out the illogical spelling of the mispelled words and make tricks for remembering how to spell the words properly.
We have begun to work on our our space brochures in class. Students are creating a travel brochure to a specific body in space. The language focus is to create a scintillating brochure by choosing a theme that relates well to the facts about that body in space and by gearing their brochure at a specific audience. For example: a family fun vacation to Saturn to ride the rings, or a relaxing getaway for adults to Pluto to get as far away from their kids as possible. Students are expected to include the features of a brochure and of persuasive writing.
We are also taking a look at asking questions before, while, and after we read. We have been talking about the difference between thick and thin questions. To practice, we looked at a picture book called "The Sweetest Fig" by Chris Van Allsburg.
We have also been working on beginning our letter response routine.
In math, we are doing a variety of open ended problems involving the basic operations and estimating. Today's question asked them to estimate the amount of days they have left in school and to explain what mathematical operations they used.

I had a lot of fun doing those broshures and im sure they will too and the thing about how many people you could fit on pluto is soo interesting im gonna have to look it up now :)
