I hope you are understanding the area of the triangle better now that we have corrected our work. Remember that multiplying something by 1/2 is the same as dividing it by 2.
Please remember the expectations that you copied down for writing in your math notebooks.
You should know three properties of air by now. How did I break the ruler? What did I have to do to blow up the balloon in the bottle?
Bocce is a great outdoor game. Maybe we can try it in the spring.
I hope you have a better idea of how different cultures form and how the first people came to be in Canada.

I will look for and find that math notebook contract. I am really serious and intent on you communicating your work in a neat and organized way so that you can be succesful. In the meantime, we will review and correct your work on the area of a triangle.

We started today with this. It's been in my head all day but I don't mind.
I'm happy that you were so engaged doing your math journal reflections. I think they will help you to understand the concepts more deeply.

I love our new read aloud and I think you are loving it too. You came up with some great observations and questions about what we have read so far.
Our new unit on Flight is going to be really interesting. Today we talked about how flight is how different structures manipulate air so that they can fly. Today we looked at undestanding a little more about air.
This showed us that air exerts pressure.
Air has mass.
Air takes up space.
In social studies, we talked about how our culture (physical an social needs) depends on our environment (landforms, seasons, flora, fauna). Now we're going to take a closer look at the life of Aboriginals and how their culture was effected by their environment. We'll also look at some European Explorers (why they came, their perspectives), and what happened when the two groups met.

Whoa. That was some great "mathing" on those Math Journals today. I'm gonna go ahead and pat myself on the back for this one. I think they are going to be great.
Here are some of your thoughts:
Karim: I got better at finding the area of rectangles and triangles using formulas.
Ella: I had never done anything like it before and I could visualize more easily which helped me to understand it.
Sarah: I wasn't very good at calculating area before but this helped me.
Aniek: It was a creative way to learn.
Olivia: There was less room to make mistakes because it was so neat and organized.
Austin: I think it's a new thing. It's a fun way to learn how to copy notes.
Jalila: At first I didn't really get area but now I kind of undertand it. At first I was a red and now I'm at a yellow.
Maya V: I think it's a good way to prepare for grade 7. I know that my sister takes a lot of notes and this will help.
Kurtis: I think it's a good and easier way to learn for me because it is your own math notebook that you can write in but not doodle on. It was easier for me to get it.
Kieran: I found the traffic light thing helped me because it sort of makes me think about wether I understand it or not.
Gus: It's one of the few things in life that I have done that was actually neat (tidy).
Rememeber that the right side of our books will always be the same. You are working on copying and being neat and organized.
The left side of our notebooks is for you to demonstrate your learning. They will always follow the same format but you will reflect in your own way. I love what I am seeing in your reflections and I can't wait to see more of your work.
That goes down as one of my top 5 favourite gym classes of all time. Dance Walking! Who knew?

Welcome back! What a great start to 2013. I loved how well you followed instructions on our Perimeter Area Review. I also like that you were able to see the big idea and come up with it on your own. I think you are going to love our new math journals and I'm excited to get them started tomorrow.
Snowshoeing was also fun. I'm glad some of you got the opportunity to see that your winter clothes may be fashionable but not so functional. Please remember to dress warmly each day.
I like the problems you came up with today for our Entrepreneurial Adventure. I think we have something great to start with.
It was good to get back into our letter writing routine. I'm looking forward to reading them.
