Today we finished the right side of our "Mean, Median, Mode, and Range" math journal entry. Tomorrow I will give you time to finish the left hand side. Until then, please enjoy Sarah's comic reflection for our "Angle" entry.

I am so excited for your stop motion movie ideas! I think the ideas really capture our message of "Celebrating Our Time at Churchill". My goal is to help you finish your storyboards by the end of the week so that we can start filming soon.

It was great to meet Tanner and Adam today. I think they are going to be really helpful business partners for our venture. I like "The Bracelet" idea and I think we're going to get the school really excited about our project.

I am still waiting for more submissions of "Music and the Message". Please come and see me for an extra sheet if you need one.

I am also collecting $4 for Blues in the Schools.

It was surprising to see how high you were able to stack you pennies!

So, what we found out was that the penny stack were around the high sixties. There was no mode. The median was 66 and the mean was 69.5.
Did you find it helpful to imagine mean like a big pot of soup? Some people are chintzy and only contribute a little bit to the soup (Logan-wink-wink-nudge-nudge) while others contribute a huge whack of pennies. In the end, it doesn't matter because you all it all into the same pot and share the soup equally.

We also looked at how outliers effect our data.

Things That Cost a Cent

Today we started by reading this article. We learned a lot from this article (one of which was that this was a poorly edited article). After reading, we practiced figuring out how much things were actually going to cost us now if we choose to pay with cash. What do you think? Do you think retiring the penny is a worthwhile idea?

If you have a pile of pennies that you are willing to bring in to class to work with in math, please bring them in tomorrow.

I like the direction of our entrepeneurial plan. Let's try and set some time aside to discuss it again this week. Please remember to come and see me if you are really not behind what we have discussed so far.

I guess that Quotation Mark Game didn't really work out like I planned. The big idea that I want you to take away is that quotation marks are used in writing to show you what the characters are saying (dialogue). There are a lot of technical rules for how to punctuate with qutoation marks. We will focus on 3-4 of the major rules throughout this week.
